Oral Motor Therapy is based on the understanding that children require normal oral structures and patterns for speech and feeding. Poor muscle strength, coordination, and movements can contribute to difficulties in speech and feeding. It is a controversial therapy but one that we at TLC has seen vast improvements in children undergoing this therapy. We have to understand that Oral Motor Therapy is just part of the whole therapy program of the child that will involve other components such as speech work or actual feeding of food. We provide the therapy using TalkTools® that was founded by Sara Rosenfeld Johnson (SRJ). The TalkTools® Therapy works on your child’s oral skills, including sucking, chewing, and blowing through fun and interactive tools to help achieve better jaw, tongue, and lips skills. Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) is a new term coined by SRJ to describe a type of oral-motor therapy that target specific oral movements needed for speech clarity and feeding.
