TLC AAC Enrichment Program

for Language, Literacy and Numeracy

Many children’s lives are transformed when they are introduced to AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication). It is a very powerful tool that breaths personality and life into the children who touches it. It is beneficial for any child especially those who are nonverbal or has
limited verbal ability due to various reasons. Depending on their cognitive ability and receptive language skills, the AAC employed can vary from low technology to high technology. AAC not only support communication for the child, it also aids the development of expression speech and language.

What the Program Offers?

  • 3-5x weekly 2-hour sessions in 4 terms
  • Individualised Educational Plans (IEPs)
  • Small group sessions to encourage peer interaction using AAC
  • Trained Educators to assist children with language, literacy, numeracy and STEM  learning through specialised
    AAC programs
  • Specialised Speech therapist with Occupational therapist consultation when necessary
  • Evidence-based AAC curriculum and latest AAC technology

Program Objectives:

The students will:

  • Engage in social interaction and communication with others using all modes of communication, including AAC
  • Learn to communicate about learned content in a collaborative environment using AAC
  • Make choices and decisions through learning projects
  • Participate in community activities and self-advocacy

Class Timetable

Class hours: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9:00 – 11:00 am

A Speech and Language Therapist facilitates communication among group members. Language components such as vocabulary, grammar and pragmatics are covered through various activities.

Children take a break, have a snack and visit the washroom.

An Educator incorporates AAC into the teaching of literacy, numeracy and STEM concepts to the class. This knowledge and skills are then included into a variety of functional activities and relevant topics.

Ongoing progress and recommendations are shared to the parents and caregivers at the end of each class.
