Over the years, across different settings (e.g. EIPIC centres, SPED schools, private clinics, home-based services), Yu Jing has experiences working with individuals aged 0-18 years, with conditions of varying complexities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Global Developmental Delay, West Syndrome, Angelmann Syndrome etc.
Yu Jing strongly advocates for communication being a basic human right and that everyone has something to say. In her commitment to find creative ways to give every child a voice, she has spearheaded programmes to facilitate effective use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in schools as well as an EyeGaze Clinic to help improve communication and learning in students with complex needs. She was also a founding member in the local chapter of the International Society of AAC (ISAAC – Singapore) in 2020. Yu Jing is certified in HANEN – More Than Words®, Gestalt Language Processing and PROMPT® Therapy, and continues to receive training to keep her skills updated.
Besides communication, Yu Jing also has a strong interest in supporting children and their families in the areas of picky eating and oral motor development. She is trained in Level 1 of the 3-Part Treatment Plan for Oral Placement Therapy (TalkTools®), and Assessment & Treatment using the SOS® Approach to Feeding.
Yu Jing believes that having fun is every child’s primary occupation, and always strives for her clients to enjoy themselves in the midst of learning. She also takes the family-centred approach and greatly values close collaboration with parents, caregivers and/or external stakeholders in order to maximise positive therapy outcomes.
Outside of work, Yu Jing enjoys aerial yoga and is an avid wildlife lover.
